Reliability and Validity of the Study Addiction Scale in Undergraduate Students of Medical Sciences Universities in Tehran

Abstract

Introduction: Recently, researches showed that educational study for some peoples may convert to forced and extreme action and leads to study addiction. The outline of this paper was surveying the reliability and validity of the study addiction scale in undergraduate students of medical science universities in Tehran.

Method: The society of research was all undergraduate students in medical science universities in Tehran. The sampling method was a multistage cluster sampling with a sample size of 743students That filled work addiction scale, Bergen study addiction scale, learning engagement scale and Oxford Happiness Inventory and 2 self-report questions about grade point average (from 20) and study time per week.

Results: Only one factor was extracted. The Relationship between learning engagement subscales with study addiction, work addiction, grade point average and study time was significantly positive. Work addiction positively related to study addiction. Relationship between happiness with study addiction and work addiction strongly was negative. Happiness and learning engagement had a positive relationship. Happiness had positive relationship with Grade point average. Happiness hadn’t significant relationship to study time

Conclusion: The study addiction scale has convergent validity with work addiction and divergent validity with happiness. This topic can be studied independently from other addiction types
