Obesity is a complex and multifaceted health issue that has reached epidemic proportions globally. One of the key factors contributing to the rising prevalence of obesity is the dysregulation of appetite control and food reward pathways in the brain. This review aims to explore the neurobiological underpinnings of food reward and their implications for obesity. The brain plays a central role in regulating food intake and energy balance through a complex interplay of neural circuits and neurotransmitters. One of the fundamental components of this regulatory system is the reward pathway, which is responsible for reinforcing behaviors associated with seeking and consuming food.
