University of Washington School of Medicine

Established in 1946, the University of Washington School of Medicine has quickly grown into a highly productive, highly collaborative research community with excellent scientific resources and facilities. UW Medicine faculty have been responsible for many basic science and technological advances in medicine, including pioneering research in areas such as cell replication and signal transduction, the biomolecular structure of proteins, and the development of medical ultrasound. UW Medicine includes among its faculty five researchers who have received Nobel Prizes in Physiology or in Medicine in less than two decades.

Research at UW Medicine occurs across 30 academic departments and throughout numerous centers and institutes. The UW Medicine research community has access to comprehensive instrumentation, facilities and services throughout UW School of Medicine research sites and across the academic campus.

Since 1974 UW School of Medicine has ranked consistently among the top 3 schools in receipt of National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant funding. UW is currently ranked tenth in the country among research-oriented medical schools.
