University of Maryland, Baltimore, was founded in 1807. It comprises some of the oldest professional schools of dentistry, law, medicine, pharmacy, social work and nursing in the nation. A strategic plan has been developed to make the University greater than the sum of our parts. Created by the UMB community, the plan will shape the University for the next decade.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) founded in 1807 along a ridge in what was then called Baltimore Town. Today, this 71 acre research and technology complex encompasses 65 buildings in West Baltimore near the Inner Harbor. UMB is Maryland's only public health, law, and human services university. Seven professional and graduate schools train the majority of the state's physicians, graduate nurses, dentists, lawyers, social workers, and pharmacists.Under the leadership of President Jay A. Perman, MD, the University is a leading partner in the redevelopment of Baltimores Westside. The University of Maryland BioPark, which opened in October 2005, promotes collaborative research opportunities and bioscience innovation.Sponsored research totaled $529.1 million in Fiscal Year 2012. With 6,368 students and 6,875 faculty members and staff.
