With more than 5,000 employees, UConn Health is Connecticuts 16th largest employer and an important contributor to the local and regional economy.

In 2011, the Connecticut Legislature approved Bioscience Connecticut, a plan proposed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to renovate and expand UConn Health. This initiative includes the construction of a new patient tower, parking garage, and outpatient center on UConn's Farmington campus; an expansion of small-business incubator space; as well as renovations to John Dempsey Hospital and its research labs. The $864 million project is expected to create thousands of new construction jobs each year over the next several years, allow for an increase in the size of the University's medical and dental schools, lead to the recruitment of additional faculty, and ultimately generate long-term sustainable economic growth for Connecticut based on bioscience research, entrepreneurship, and commercialization.
