About Translational Science

Translational research transforms scientific discoveries arising from laboratory, clinical, or population studies into clinical applications to reduce cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality.”

The approach quickens the transition from researcher to physician by improving multidisciplinary collaboration and communication. There are typically four types or steps of Translational Research.

Type 1: Applies new knowledge generated in the laboratory to new methods that can be tested on humans.

Type 2:Takes the results of the above human studies and refines them for use in daily clinical practice.

Type 3: Takes these practices beyond the academic health clinic and into the community.

Type 4: Evaluates the outcomes from the above steps and provides feedback.
