About Sleepwalking
Sleepwalking is a disorder that causes people to get up and walk while theyre asleep. It is also known as also known as somnambulism or noctambulism it’s a behavior disorder that originates during deep sleep, it is a series of complex changes in behaviors that are carried out while sleeping, the most obvious of which is walking. Symptoms of sleepwalking disorder that range from sitting up in bed and looking around the room, to walking around the room, to leaving the house and even driving long distances, sleepwalkers eyes are open, but they dont see the same way they do. Sleep walking is considered as parasomnia and it is an arousal disorder where there is no specific treatment. Causes of Sleepwalking include lack of sleep, fatigue, anxiety, alcohol, sedatives, mental disorders, medical conditions like partial complex seizures but in the elderly people sleep walking can be a symptom of REM behavior disorders or an organic brain syndrome. Sleep hygiene can eliminate the problem of sleep walking to some extent, for adults it may include hypnosis and pharmacological therapies like sedatives, antidepressants, hypnotics can reduce the incidence of sleepwalking.
