About Neuropathic pain

Neuropathic pain results from damage to or dysfunction of the peripheral or central nervous system, rather than stimulation of pain receptors. Pain can develop after injury to any level of the nervous system, peripheral or central; the sympathetic nervous system may be involved.

Neuropathic pain is one of the most common problems contributing to suffering and disability worldwide that comes from problems with signal from nerves caused by potential or actual damage to tissues.

Unfortunately, NP is also largely refractory to treatments, with a large number of patients continuing to report significant pain even when they are receiving recommended medications and physical therapy.
