About Animal Microbiology
Veterinary microbiology deals with the various microbial (bacterial, fungal, viral) diseases in animals especially that supply food, other useful products or companionship. Studies of antimicrobial resistance are also included in the various studies of animal microbiology. Microbial diseases of wild animals are also studied in animal microbiology if the infections are of special interest because of their interrelation with humans (zoonosis) and domestic animals. Veterinary microbiologists are physicians specialized in the study of microorganisms that cause infectious disease in animal species. They are often involved with the development of vaccines, drugs, and other animal health products. Veterinary microbiologists are responsible for studying a variety of disease-causing microorganisms including viruses, bacteria, and parasites. They conduct research studies and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals.
