Abstract
The Role of Traditional Medicine in Primary Health Care
In Africa today and the world at large, there is an upsurge in the acceptance and utilization of herbal medicine partly because of scientific support of their medicinal uses. Some of these herbs include Rauvolfia vomitoria (Afzel), Vernonia amygdalina (Compositae), Ocimum gratissimum (Labiatae), and Allium sativum (Liliaceae) amongst others. These medicinal plants are used in the treatment of various diseases such as malaria, diabetes, diarrhea, pyrexia, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal disorders and as a general tonic.
