Use of low-cost strategies to implement the use of 3D printing in dentistry

Abstract


The present study investigated alternatives low-cost workflows to implement the use of 3D technology in the dental office. Dental digital workflow is composed by a computer aided impression (CAI) source, a computer aided design (CAD) software and a computer aided manufacture (CAM) equipment. Historically, at the beginning of the use of the 3D technology in dentistry, the systems usually were high-complexity and high-cost. In the last 5 years, the technology development turned it considerable accessible but It continues to be a huge investment for most of dental offices all around the world, especially in development countries. The applications are countless, the work can be delivered faster and precisely, further than it is time saving and comfortable for both dentists and patients. These are advantages that should be available for as many professionals as possible. In order to make affordable the use of 3D technology for dentists all around the world, the use of low-cost strategies can be the key to implement the use of 3D printing in Dentistry.
