Abstract


Slovakia is a small, sympatic country in the heart of Europe, which has just boarded the long-awaited long-term care reform. The Nursing Home - the first institutional health care facility founded and run by nurses was established here in 2005. Young nurses faced the challenge not to disappoint and the results of their work to defend the importance and potential of a completely new type of provider, to introduce ever higher quality into the care of their clients in the umbrella of developing organizations. After years of hard work, they have seen success in building and developing the Nursing Centre and the Sun House. The workplaces managed to achieve a high level of nursing care and comprehensive quality management of the organization, which was awarded a national award. In their presentation, the authors present key moments in the history of the development of their organizations in the country. They strived for development and innovation in not easy conditions of the national context of long-term care, which, however, gained importance and urgency, especially during the pandemic. The contribution is an illustration of the potential of nurses, who within the framework of national policies, in an effort to be the voice of the seriously and long-term sick and to fulfil the spirit of nursing, can be key players in developing of overall quality of care.

Biography


Zuzana Fabianova as the initiator of the establishment of the Nursing Centre and the building of Social Services Facility Sunny house (ZSS Slnecny dom) stands as leader behind many innovations. She is the general director of complex of facilities and services, representative of quality management and chairman of the board for both devices. She implemented Total quality management in established organizations with successful ISO standard certification. In ZSS Slnecny dom she has built a model of EFQM and coordinated the involvement of this organization in the National Quality Award 2014 (victory in category C3). Zuzana is the chairwoman of the Expert Working Group at Ministry of Health for Nursing and has developed 20 diagnostic and therapeutic nursing standards. She actively participates in the legislation creation and commenting in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. Zuzana is the chairwoman of nursing section of the Association of Social Services Providers in Slovakia.
