A variety of supplemental dental materials are often incorporated into a restorative and esthetic procedure for the health and well-being of the tooth being restored. we will describes these materials and guides you in the use of liners, bases, varnishes, desensitizers, and etching and Bonding materials that provide added protection for the pulp and surrounding tooth structures in the final restoration process. Calcium hydroxide is one of the most frequently selected types Of cavity liner because of its unique characteristics Example include Dycal, VLC Dycal. Fluoride varnish has a higher fluoride concentration than any other fluoride marketed, being 5% or 22,600 ppm fluoride. The main advantage of this type of varnish is its versatility in use. This gel-like substance is designed to release fluoride on enamel, root structure, and dentin structure. When a tooth preparation becomes moderately deep to the preparation will require an additional layer or base to be placed before the permanent restorative material. Zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) can be selected for use as insulating base and as a sedative base. The unique quality of this material is the eugenol in the liquid. With its oil from cloves, eugenol has a soothing effect on a painful, irritated pulp. Polycarboxylate cements are selected as a base for their protective and insulating qualities. Polycarboxylate is nonirritating the pulp and can be placed under all types of direct and indirect restorations. In tooth preparation when using a bonding material, the tooth surface (enamel or dentin, or both) will need to be etched with an acidic tooth conditioner.
