Abstract
Tele dentistry is the use of communication technology, including audio and video interaction, to remotely provide dental care services such as consultation, diagnosis, and patient education, according to the American Tele dentistry Association. Through tele dentistry, “dentists can meet their patients virtually in order to evaluate their conditions, present treatment plans, offer dental education, prescribe medication, and meet for pre-op and postop appointments. This assures that the patient can see their dentist in a timely manner without needing to physically be in the office. Teledentistry is usually provided in four different ways: • Live video: This involves live, two-way interaction between a patient and their dental health expert via video call. • Store and forward: This involves the transfer of recorded health information like photographs, x-rays, and digital impressions to providers via a secured communication channel. • Remote patient monitoring: This form of monitoring collects your personal dental health information at one location and securely transmits it electronically to a practitioner at another location, for use in future dental care. • Mobile health: This form of tele dentistry uses mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, computers, and personal digital assistants to provide dental health education to the public. Teldentistery and covid 19 pandemic: The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the existing healthcare systems across the globe. As it spreads by droplet, fomite and contact transmission, face-to-face interaction of healthcare professional with the patient carries a risk of its transmission. during the current pandemic, most routine dental procedures all around the world, have been suspended, and only emergency dental procedures and surgeries are being performed. Teledentistry in the pandemic of COVID-19 focuses on “dental triage,” the relief of pain or infection, provision of dental care by remote consultation, planning, and scheduling of definitive dental treatment. Using teledentistry in preventive dentistry. At the moment it is the time to incorporate teledentistry into routine dental practice. Using telehealth tools in preventive dentistry has multiple benefits: • Help improve oral healthcare access to the patients • Improve the oral healthcare delivery • Help for under-served populations • Economic and time saving. • Huge increase of the number of patient can meet dentist as there is no limit number as schedule appointments . In oral hygiene campaign integrate video calls, online lectures, use social media apps (twitter, instagram) in carries control advices, gingival health instructions, oral hygiene habits make preventive dentistry more receptive specially in teenage communities and allow us at the other side to reach communities not able to reach or it high cost to reach like far away villages or refugee communities.
