Abstract
Climate change has become a serious challenge to Nigeria's socioeconomic development. The various impact of climate change in Nigeria, include increase in drought, scarcity of food instigated somewhat by irregularities in rainfall, and over flooding. The implications of these challenges range from hunger, and ill-health to migration. The paper draws attention to the increasing degree of the impacts and suggests adaptation strategies for Nigeria. There are various contributions towards the climate change in my area which include the use of bigger equipment’s by the industries which release carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. Also the cars used for public transport in Nigeria (Lagos State) are all old and faulty cars that release more of carbon monoxide into the atmosphere which eventually cause change in climate. Frequently use of gas turbine in Nigeria instead of dam has caused a lot climatic change around he locality. Poverty in Nigeria due to rescission has contributed a lot in climate change in Nigeria. The poor now divert another means of cooking by using firewood to cook, reckless bush burning by farmers. Deforestation, overcrowding environment and insufficient man power in our education system have contributed in climate change. Recently , a researcher presented a paper on climate change at the American Geophysical Union’s which enlisted the environmental direct action, resistance taken from outside the dominant culture, as in protests, blockades and sabotage by indigenous peoples, workers, anarchists and other activist groups. Although, climate change is majorly caused by human activities and human activities can be reduce through Awareness and engagement of various groups, NGOs’, government bodies and general public. Afforestation should be practice in all levels and a law should be passed to secure our ecosystem. In Nigeria, Afforestation has been in low rate while deforestation increases daily, due to wrong information to our local farmers and the general public. The conference on climatic strike will help to deal or produce new approaches towards create a friendly environment. The revolution of climate change is question to be answered by unborn generation and still worldwide biggest problem, only if the world can recognize the effect of ecosystem and its interaction, then we can have free and fair environment. These can be jointly worked out by nations coming together in respective of our tribe, ethnicity, religion, race and color.
Biography
Okeke Ugochukwu has completed his M.Sc. at the age of 27 years from the University Ibadan and currently pursuing his PhD program and Diploma program at University of Ibadan and University of Yolk UK. He is currently a researcher at University of Ibadan. He is also working with Telecommunication sector as a network specialist and also an entrepreneur in pharmaceutical sector.
