Predictive factors for pregnancy after intrauterine insemination

Abstract
Objective: To determine the predictive factors for pregnancy after controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with intrauterine insemination.
Design: Prospective observational study.
Settings: Surgiscope Fertility Centre Chittagong, Bangladesh.
Material: Total 222 patients undergoing stimulated IUI cycles in between October 2018 to January 2019 over a period of 3 months.
Methods: Ovarian stimulation with clomiphene citrate with gonadotrophins and a single IUI was performed 36 hours after triggering ovulation.
Main outcome measures: The primary outcome measures were clinical pregnancy. Predictive factors evaluated were female age, duration of infertility, indication for IUI, number of preovulatory follicles and post wash good motile sperm count.
Results: The overall clinical pregnancy rate was 23%. The predictive factor evaluated were the duration of infertility, age of the female partner, Indication of IUI and post wash sperm count. Among them age of female partner, indication of IUI and post wash sperm count significantly influenced the clinical pregnancy rate.
Conclusion: Result indicate that controlled ovarian stimulation and IUI is an effective option in couple with infertility due to polycystic disease, young age of women, shorter duration of infertility are associated with increased success and should be considered when planning for treatment.
