Outcomes of pre-surgery preparation program in fast track surgery for patients with breast cancer at primary care unit

Abstract


Breast cancer was a serious disease that effects to the quality of life in patients. It is the most cause of death among women in Thailand and around the world. This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the outcome of pre-surgery preparation program in fast track surgery system for patients with breast cancer pre-surgery phase at the primary care unit. Studies in 20 pre-surgery breast cancers patients were assessed at the outpatient department of Kalasin hospital. Instruments used in this study were the pre-surgery manual for patients with breast cancer in pre-surgery phase at the primary care unit. The data were collected by questionnaire. Content validity was approved by five experts who examine the confidence. Reliability used the Cronbrach’s alpha coefficient was 0.864. The feature information was compared with the descriptive statistics. Wilcoxon singed-rank test was used before and after the trial. The research found that after the trial, the samples had a higher level of knowledge about general and practice in breast cancer than before the trial. Statistically significant (p<0.05). After the trial, the samples had lower stress levels for surgical treatment. Statistically significant (p<0.05). After the trial, the samples had the level of satisfaction with pre-surgery service. Over all more than before the trial. Statistically significant (p<0.05). After the trial, the samples had the level of cooperation in admission. Over all more than before the trial. Statistically significant (p<0.05). Summary of pre-surgery preparation program in fast track surgery system for patients with breast cancer, pre- surgery phase at the primary care unit. Patients are better able the knowledge about breast cancer, has reduced stress, they are satisfied with the service and cooperation in the treatment as well. The program should be used to prepare patients before surgery.

Tawan Khetpanya is a Practitioner’s Nurse at Kalasin Hospital in Thailand. He has experience as a Nursing Care patient with surgery and community care. He has completed his Graduation from faculty of nursing at Mahasarakham University in Thailand. And now he has interested in research about healthcare of people in Thailand.
