Abstract

The presentation is focused in drug development process and how the drug formulation places an important role in medicinal product success. We present how the drug formulation can impact in the profile of the drug product enhancing parameters such as: Patient adherence, Treatment efficacy and Safety profile. We will provide as a part of the presentation real data of drug development projects and the advantages of new concepts and technology applied for new drug formulations. We discuss the example on how the company manages through the “Polypill concept” a galenic-innovation combining several active ingredients in a single capsule the development of a new fixed dose combination, an approved medicine to reduce risk factors or pathological mechanisms of cardiovascular disease (CVD) enhancing patient adherence. Multi-treatments schedules are frequent after cardiovascular events and represent health issues, such as adverse drugdrug interactions, medication errors and treatment non-adherence. Furthermore, we present a new technology platform through the company developed a “Novel Drug Development System” for inhalation exposure of active pharmaceutical ingredients. In conclusion, the presentation will address and set up the focus in the relationship of drug formulations and enhancement of drug efficacy and safety as a direct way to improve the benefits-risks balance of a medicinal product.
