Abstract
Introduction: Burns are skin damage with or without underlying tissue caused by fire, electricity, radiation, and blast injury. The main goal of burns management is quick recovery by restoring optimal function and maintaining good aesthetic results. Objectives: This study aims to determine effectiveness comparison of aloe vera gel with 1% silver sulfadiazine cream on IIA degree burn wound management. Materials and Methods: This study was a clinical trial of 20 samples divided into 1% silver sulfadiazine group and aloe vera gel groups. Comparative analysis using independent t-test, paired t-test, Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test. Results: There were significant epithelial differences on 4th day to 14th day in each group, epithelialization in aloe vera gel group was 95.90+6.48% (p=0.005) and epithelialization in 1% silver sulfadiazine group was 84.76+11.72% (p=0.005). There were significant epithelial differences between aloe vera gel compared 1% silver sulfadiazine cream on 7th day (p=0.014), 10th day (p=0.015) and 14th day (p=0.021), but there was no significant epithelial differences on 4th day. Conclusions: There were differences in effectiveness on IIA degree burn wound management between aloe vera gel compared 1% silver sulfadiazine cream.
