Abstract
Metabolic diseases induced by occupational and accidental exposure to xenobiotics are a thriving hidden cause behind disease progression. Agrochemicals are more easily exposable pollutants among other xenobiotics. Organophosphates (OP) are the primarily used insecticides worldwide by which most human population are exposed directly or indirectly via food, water, and air. Our study concludes that degradation of OP by gut microbiota induced hyperglycemia by gluconeogenesis. It is the first report to unwind the relationship between the plasma OP residues and fecal acetate levels, primarily associated with diabetic status among the rural agricultural population in south India (n=3080). An extended self-reported survey study was conducted to unravel the association between occupational exposure to agrochemicals and diabetic prevalence among 0.1 million rural south Indian farming population (n=1, 06,111 people). The study powerfully portrays the association of agrochemical exposure with the prevalence of diabetes and associated cardiovascular risk factors. Thus the result recommended reconsidering the regulations on the usage of agrochemicals.
