The climate neutralilty as a policy goal and method for low carbon economy and low climate change economy has recently officially admitted for its crucial importance with the new initiative of the UN, named as “Climate Neutral Now” (CNN). It urges individuals, companies and governments, cities, regions and NGOs to undertake co-ordinated enhanced actions towards transition to climate neutrality by the second-half of the 21st century. In this respect, the paper aims to shed light in the specific attributes and perspectives of the climate neutrality concept and to explore how these can effectively transform the challenge of climate change to opportunity for environment protection and sustainability. More specifically, the major contribution of this study is the development of a conceptual framework, connecting proactive upgrading of climate neutrality with the offsetting/compensating reactive actions. More specifically it highlights the need for a holistic approach that will ensure performing implementation of sustainable practices, through linking assessment, re-engineering and offset phase. To our knowledge concerning originality, clarity, responsibility and scientific soundness, this will help marrying top-down and bottom-up dynamic feed-back for attaining climate footprints minimization through strengthening collaborative innovation, operational performance in the framework of green sustainable supply chain management. Moreover, it will facilitate the accomplishment of certified emission reductions, drawn from the UN.

George Malindretos is an Αssistant Professor at Harokopio University, Athens, Greece. He holds a Civil Engineering degree with specialization in Transport Engineering, NTUA, Greece. He has done his MSc in Logistics and Transportation, Cranfield University, UK and PhD in Business Process Re-engineering and Logistics, Panteion University of Athens, Greece. He has 15 years of teaching experience, has presented many papers in international scientific conferences and has published number of articles in scientific journals on various issues of Supply Chain Management. Moreover, he has participated in R&D projects as a Consultant or responsible for business plans of introducing logistics in a number of Greek manufacturing and trade companies.
