Abstract
Celiac disease (CD) is an inflammatory genetic auto immune disease in which the patients have sensitivity against gluten which is a protein present in wheat and some other food items. Once gluten enter the body, it induce immune system to innate and acquired immune response in which the immune system produce autoantibodies which migrate into small intestine and induces inflammation which not only effect the function of small intestine but also the some mediators which increase the permeability of tissue and may also cause damage to other organs. There is no medication for CD; the only treatment method is the diet which is gluten free. In addition, patients must take some supplementation to prevent malabsorption. If this disease is not diagnosed early it may be develop different types of malignancies.
Biography
Walaa Fikry Elbossaty is a Research Fellow at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Damietta, Egypt. She has received her BSc (Chemistry/ Biochemistry), MSc in Biochemistry from Mansoura University and PhD in Biochemistry from Damietta University. Her research interests focused on gastrointestinal tract and immune system.
