Abstract

Aim of the study is to determine the anatomy of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Vietnamese individuals. Ten (10) fresh knees were dissected to determine the anatomy of ACL. The insertion, the length and the diameter of ACL were noted. The average lengths of anteromedial (AM) and Posterolateral (PL) bundle of the ACL were 30.6 mm and 25.6 mm, respectively. The average sizes of the femoral and tibial ACL attachment sites were 13.8×10.6 mm and 13.4×10.2 mm, respectively. The ACL was composed of two bundles: AM and PL. The shapes of femoral attachment site, tibial attachment site and the cross-section of the medial third of the ACL were not circles but rather ellipses. Understanding the anatomy of ACL in Vietnamese adults is very helpful in ACL reconstruction surgery for Vietnamese individuals.
