Abstract

The project is focused on the redesign for additive manufacturing of a part of a coffee packaging line. The main target for this project was the reduction of the weight of a component (pallet) that was originally manufactured using traditional methods (CNC machining). Thanks to a study of topology optimization (using FEM analisys) was designed a new component with the same strength (actually a little bit increased) with a weight reduction of 36% and more than 20 component on each pallet. The prototypes and the final parts are 3D printed using PA12 with HP’s MJF technology. Thanks to this weight reduction the line increased its productivity by 15%.
