Abstract

3D printing has proven its potential in high value applications, being able to tackle complex geometries and deliver customized or individualized solutions. This lends well to its application in the medical and healthcare space where no two patients are the same and a more patient-specific planning and treatment is required. 3D reconstruction of digital models from CT, CBCT, MRI scans coupled with virtual surgical planning can be used to produce patient-specific anatomical models, surgical guides, medical devices and implants. This presentation aims to highlight key applications of 3D printing in the healthcare industry and discuss the challenges faced by hospitals and medical institutes that hinder the fast adoption of this technology.
