Abstract

The human activity related with a particular piece of land comes under land use. Land cover is associated to the type of feature present on the earth surface. The regions covered by forests, wetlands, impervious surfaces, agriculture, water types etc comes under land cover.by analysing satellite and aerial imagery we can determine land cover whereas land use cannot be determined from satellite imagery. Land cover information is used by the managers for better understanding of the present landscapes. There are two methods for collecting information on land covers. They are field survey and remotely sensed imagery analysis. Land change models can be built from these data to assess future shifts in land cover

Keywords: Disaster management, Vulnerability risk assessments, Ecological management, Wildlife management

Land use practices have a major impact on natural resources including water, soil, plants and animals.to develop the solutions for natural resources like salinity, water quality land use information can be used. The water bodies in deforested areas or having erosions area will have different water quality compared to the water bodies in forested areas. The major effect of land use on land cover is deforestation of temperate regions. The effects of land use include soil erosion, urban sprawl, salinization, soil degradation. the major source of carbon dioxide is land use change together with use of fossil fuels.
Land cover change detection using remote sensing and geospatial data provides baseline information for assessing the climate change impacts on habitats and biodiversity, as well as natural resources, in the target areas.

land degradation has increased where there has been a nonappearance of any land use planning, or of its well-ordered implementation, or the existence of financial or legal incentives that have led to the wrong land use decisions, or one-sided central planning leading to overexploitation of the land resources - for instance for instantaneous production at all costs. As a conclusion, the result has often been misery for large segments of the local population and destruction of valuable ecosystems. By planning and management of land sources such narrow approaches can be replaced. The long-term quality of land use of human, conservation of ecosystem, prevention of conflicts of land use can be ensured

Land cover" is distinct from "land use", despite the two terms often being used interchangeably. Land use is a description of how people utilize the land and of socio-economic activity. Urban and agricultural land uses are two of the most commonly known land use classes. At any one point or place, there may be multiple and alternate land uses, the specification of which may have a political dimension. The origins of the "land cover/land use" couplet and the imputation of their confusion are considered in Fisher et al format.
