Abstract
Clinical Application of Cardiac Stem Cells
The recent identification of c-kit-positive cardiac stem cells opened the possibility of their therapeutic usage. In fact, the injection of human cardiac stem cells into the infarcted myocardium resulted in intensive muscle and vessel repair. Based on these animal studies, severe ischemic heart failure patients were treated with their own stem cells in the SCIPIO trial, and the result was outstanding.
