Pathology is defined as the scientific study of the nature of disease and its causes; processes; development; and consequences. It deals with the diseases of the mouth; jaws; and related structures such as salivary glands, temporomandibular joints, facial muscles and perioral skin. It treats of conditions causing or resulting from morbid anatomical or functional changes in the structures of the mouth.
