Abstract
Nuclear Materials Science: Enabling Technology for Sustained Operation of Nuclear Power Generation & Development of Next Generation Power Plants
Science of nuclear materials is the most significant enabling technology for continued and sustained safe operation of current nuclear reactors where the main limiting factors are the ageing and degradation of materials. In addition, the advanced and next generation nuclear reactor technologies are highly dependent on the advances in materials research leading to the development of new materials that are relatively more radiation resistant and can tolerate more severe operating conditions such as higher temperatures along with more corrosive atmospheres in addition to high neutron doses.
