Biography
Dr. Yuan Liao is currently an associate professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Yuan Liao obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A& M University, College Station, Texas in 2000. He worked as a consulting R&D engineer and then principal consulting R&D engineer at the Corporate Research Center of ABB Inc., Raleigh, North Carolina from 2000 to 2005 before he joined the University of Kentucky. He has worked on projects in areas of fault location, high performance decomposition techniques for large scale resource scheduling optimization, development of a competitive power market simulator- GridView, fault tolerant NMS/SCADA, system expansion and distributed generation siting, asset management, power quality analysis, power system angle and voltage stability analysis, and fault type classification.

Dr. Yuan Liao's research interests include: Protective relaying, Power quality monitoring and analysis, Power system economics and optimization, Applications of signal processing and intelligent techniques, Energy management system, Renewable energy.
