Biography

Dr. Terrence A. Barrett is currently the section chief for Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition, Department of Gastroenterology, University of Kentucky, USA. He has received his medical degree from the University of Illinois and completed a residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago. He completed fellowships in gastroenterology, IBD and immunology at the University of Chicago. Dr. Barrett specializes in complex inflammatory bowel disease and is part of a NCI clinical trial for patients with colitis-induced dysplasia. He has expertise in chromoendoscopy and the evaluation and detection of colitis-induced dysplasia. He is the one of only a few physicians, nationally, who have experience in this procedure. Dr. Barrett is the recipient of numerous prestigious research grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. He has been appointed as Chair, GMPB (Gastrointestinal Mucosal Pathobiology) Study Section, Digestive, Kidney and Urological Systems Integrated Review Group, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health Center for Scientific Review. Dr. Barrett serves on the editorial board of numerous national and international journals and has authored more than 200 articles, abstracts, book reviews and editorials.
