Dr. Blantz is Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego. He is graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore. Currently, he is an elected Councilor for the International Society of Nephrology and serves on their Publications Committee, he is a Section Editor for Current Opinions in Nephrology-Hypertension, and is a member of the National Institutes of Health’s Pathobiology of Kidney Disease Study Section (PBKD).

Areas of research involve renal physiology and pathophysiology.
