Biography
Dr. Patricia Junquera has spent her career in academic medicine dedicated to the teaching and training of students, residents, and fellows in Psychiatry. Dr. Junquera has received several awards for outstanding teaching and has served as a mentor for numerous resident psychiatrists. Dr. Junquera areas of expertise include the evaluation and management of patients with substance use disorders, mood disorders as well as geriatric patients. She has given numerous presentations on these topics and published book reviews and articles on the topic of addiction. Dr. Junquera continues her research in the area of addiction and mood disorders with special interest in woman and addiction and the use of "designer" drugs among young adults. After Graduating with a summa cum laude in Health Sciences she completed medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Centro America (UCIMED), Dr. Junquera completed residency training in Psychiatry in her native Miami, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Association with the University of Miami and the VA Medical Center. Subsequently Dr. Junquera went on to complete a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry and also developed a special interest in the field of Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Junquera serves in multiple committees and sits in the addiction service board of Miami Dade County. Dr. Junquera has received several teaching awards from the University of Miami and a Special Care award from the Veterans Administration in 2009, for "going above and beyond the call of duty" in her clinical duties. Dr. Junquera is committed to developing programs that offer excellence in education, training, research, and clinical services.
