Biography
Prof Jason Powell Ph.D, FHEA, FRSA, FRSPH is Professor of Sociology and Gerontology at The University of Chester. He has extensive leadership and management experience, i.e, formerly Associate Dean (Research) of Faculty of Health & Life Sciences and Professor of Gerontology at Coventry University; Professor of Community Practice & Social Justice at Manchester Metropolitan University; appointed Head of Social Sciences and Professor of Community Leadership at University of Central Lancashire; Associate Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Acting Associate Dean of Faculty of Arts (in transition to a combined Faculty) and Associate Dean of Faculty of Social & Environmental Studies and Reader in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Liverpool; Associate Head of School (Teaching and Learning) of Community, Health Sciences and Social Care (which had the largest social work department in UK) and Director of Admissions (UG, PGT, PGR) at The University of Salford.
Dr. Powell has interests in interdisciplinary research focusing on aging and social policy. He has held many research and knowledge exchange grants in the UK, EU and Asia and disseminated his research globally with many publications inc 70 academic books and top ranked refereed journal articles, ie, The Journal of Applied Gerontology; Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law; International Journal of Social Welfare; Social Policy & Society; The Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences; and The Canadian Journal of Sociology. Dr. Powell is Editor-in-Chief of Illness, Crisis & Loss (Sage). He is Series Editor (Springer) on International Perspectives on Aging. He has served on 100+ editorial boards globally inc Aging International and Qualitative Social Work.
Dr. Powell holds Honorary Professorial posts at Guangdong Technology University in China, McMaster University in Canada, Tasmania University in Australasia and in the International Centre for Education, Social and Humanitarian Studies. He has held Visiting Professorships at in US, UK, Jordan, South Africa and Australia.
He has held Visiting Fellowships at top ranked universities including The University of Oxford, The University of Liverpool and was invited as Visiting Scholar at The Harvard Medical School and Victoria University in Canada. Professor Powell was nominated and elected to Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts and The Royal Society for Public Health. He is a former Trustee of the AQA and member of NIHR Fellowships Committee. He is Honorary Director of GRCF-U.
