Biography
Dr Hafiz Alaka is committed to ongoing 21st century inter-disciplinary research with focus
on digital technologies application (Big Data Analytics, IoT, AI, etc.) to
construction/infrastructure.
Hafiz leads and takes part in collaborative research with reputable industry partners. He
has been involved in over eight funded research projects worth over six millions pounds.
Current projects include ‘Emission reduction (worth £500,000) with Earthsense Limited’ and
‘AutoBIM (worth £900,000) with Balfour Beatty’, among three others. Past projects include
deconstruction and recovery information modelling, and Big Data Analytics for construction
waste reduction, among others. Other notable partners include AHR Architects, White Frog
Publishing, Smallfry, and counting.
In the last four years, he has produced over 30 articles in journals of international standing.
These include top journals with high impact factor including Renewable & Sustainable
Energy Reviews (IF = 9.184); Resources, Conservation and Recycling (IF = 5.120); Waste
Management (IF = 4.723); and Advanced Engineering Informatics Reviews (IF = 3.358)
among many others. They also include 3-star rated journals in ABS like IEEE Transactions
on Engineering Management (IF = 1.416) and Expert Systems with Application (IF = 3.768).
Many of his papers submitted for mock REF were ranked as being 3* and above. He has
also presented his works in world class conferences such as IEEE Big Data Computing
Services and Applications; and Association of Researchers in Construction Management
conference, among others. He has over 500 citations with H-index=12 and i10-index=15
(Google Scholar).
Hafiz currently supervises and examines PhDs. He is an invited speaker and delegate in a
number of research events. He teaches Project and Contract management modules across
the Civil Engineering and Construction Management programmes, and in Business Schools.
