Human prion diseases, including Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), the most common human prion disease, are fatal neurodegenerative disorders. They are characterized by the accumulation of an abnormal prion protein (PrPSc), vacuolation, astrocytic gliosis and neuronal cell loss in the brain
