The usual target to reduce blood pressure in persons aged 50 is from 140/90 mm Hg or below 135/85 mm Hg when measured at home. For older patients the target may be set slightly higher (less than 150/90 mm Hg in the surgery or clinic, or below 145/85 mm Hg.
