Biography

Ron Grunstein AM is currently Professor of Sleep Medicine and head of the NHMRC Centre for Integrated Research and Understanding of Sleep (CIRUS) and the NHMRC Australasian Sleep Trials Network. He is an NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow and was previously a NHMRC Practitioner Fellow since 2002. Professor Grunstein is a staff specialist physician in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, has an honorary appointment in respiratory and sleep medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and heads the Sleep and Circadian Research Group, Woolcock Institute of Medical Research.

Implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia- The Patient Perspective

Objective: Despite strong evidence for the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), patient experience of therapy implementation remains unexplored. This study sought to deliver a comprehensive account from the patient perspective and provide a unique insight into treatment adherence.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with individuals with insomnia (n = 11, female = 8), who had completed a cognitive behavioral therapy program.
