Biography

Dr. Sunil Sharma joined Thomas Jefferson University/Hospital in 2013. Dr. Sharma was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine & Pitt County Memorial Hospital for the past 5 years, where he initiated the sleep program at the University, with accreditation by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, and was medical director of the sleep program at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Sharma has board certifications in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and sleep medicine. Dr. Sharma completed his medical degree in India, an internal medicine residency at Cook County Memorial Hospital in Chicago, pulmonary & sleep fellowship at Univ. of WI in Madison, and a critical care fellowship at Medical College of WI in Milwaukee. Dr. Sharma has an active medical license in PA. Dr. Sharma is an experienced clinician educator, with an active practice that has included outpatient pulmonary & sleep clinics, in-patient consultative practice, and additional expertise in caring for patients with the complex pulmonary hypertension syndrome. Dr. Sharma has great deal of experience in interpreting a variety of sleep studies as well as treating the spectrum of sleep disorders. Dr. Sharma also has experience in performing right heart caths and managing pulmonary hypertension, with particular emphasis in non-resolving thromboemboli. Dr. Sharma has had various teaching responsibilities including core lectures for medical students; a variety of residency & fellowship lectures in sleep disorders and pulmonary medicine over 10 years. Dr. Sharma has organized (as a director or co-director) 4 annual CME programs in sleep medicine over the past 5 years.
