S M Balachandran is currently working as a Principal Scientist at Department of Biotechnology, Directorate of Rice Research, India. He has worked for more than 10 years in the molecular breeding and gained a plethora of knowledge in Genetic engineering of rice. He has published numerous research papers and articles in reputed journals and has various other achievements in Plant Biotechnology. His research interests lie in Core collections, specific amplification pattern, descriptors, Genetic similarity, japonica, indica. He has extended his valuable service towards the scientific community with his extensive research work.  He Established rice biotechnology lab and developed doubled haploid rice lines, Bt transgenic rice resistance to YSB and drought tolerant transgenic rice. He is also associated in developing MAS derived rice varieties.
