Biography
Dr. Shannon D. R. Ringenbach is the Associate Dean of Barrett at the Downtown Phoenix Campus and an Associate Professor in the Program of Kinesiology in the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion in the College of Health Solutions. She obtained her bachelors and masters degrees from McMaster University in Canada and her PhD from Purdue University in the area of motor development and motor control. She is the Director of the Sensorimotor Development Research Lab in which she is currently conducting research on an innovative exercise intervention aimed at improving motor, cognitive, and clinical outcomes in special needs populations, especially persons with Down syndrome. She has published over 30 refereed journal articles, received three NIH research grants, multiple foundation and internal grants, won several teaching and young research career awards including the ASASU Centennial Professor of the Year. Dr. Ringenbach’s passion for Undergraduate students is clear from her supervision of 38 Honors Undergraduate theses. She has also been the Honors Faculty Advisor for the 50 students in the Department of Kinesiology for the last 8 years. She is on the Editorial board of the journal of Human Movement Science and is currently the National Secretary/Treasurer of the North American Society for Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA).
Research Interest
Exercise interventions on motor, cognitive, clinical functions in persons with Down syndrome and intellectual disability.
