Biography

Prof. Richard Isralowitz, director of the Regional Alcohol and Drug Abuse Resources (RADAR) Center at BGU is the recipient of the US National Distinguished International Scientist Award. Prof. Isralowitz has published over 100 articles and 9 books on substance abuse and related issues. Among the honors he has received are: Distinguished International Scientist - US National Institute on Drug Abuse; International Visiting Professor - New York University; Hallsworth Scholar of Social Policy - University of Manchester, England; and, Fulbright Fellow - University of Singapore. Prof. Isralowitz received his doctorate from the Florence Heller Graduate School for Advanced Studies in Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University. Recently, he was hosted by Prof. Rainer Thomasius, Director of the German Center for Addiction Research in Childhood and Adolescence at the University of Hamburg along with Dr. Sonja Broning to discuss possible trilateral cooperation of model research in the region addressing mutual issues of concern including substance use prevention among children with addicted parents. Current RADAR Center research includes a focus on substance use and related problems among Israeli and Former Soviet Union origin youth and adults.
