Biography

Nikos Zourbanos is a post-doctoral researcher (recently elected Assistant Professor) at the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, University of Thessaly in Greece. His research applies self-regulation strategies and motivation theories to understand and enhance performance but also change unhealthy behaviors such as smoking and drinking through exercise. He has published numerous articles and serves as a referee in established sport and exercise psychology journals. He is a member of the managing council of the Hellenic Society of Sport Psychology (HSSP), member of the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP), the Association for Psychological Science (APS), the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC), and the Psychological Society of Northern Greece (PSNG). Furthermore, he is Editorial assistant of the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology since 2008 and Co-Editor of the Bulletin Board and Editor of the Hellenic Journal of Sport Psychology since 2013. He has published numerous articles and serves as a referee in established sport psychology journals. He is involved in healthy psychology projects 1) a motivational intervention to enhance physical activity in young children 2) the effects of exercise on smoking cessation and alcohol urges. In his free time he enjoys running and cycling.
