Impact of Inflammatory Response and Sleep Quality in Athlete Sars-Cov-2 Infected before the Tokyo's Paralympics Games: A Case Study of a Brazilian Female Medalist

We aimed to analyze the inflammatory, physiological and sleep behavior parameters in a Brazilian female medalist SARS-CoV-2 infected before Tokyo’s Paralympic Games. A 39 years old female paralympic athlete (height: 161.4 cm and body mass: 52.3 kg) currently competes in the paralympic track modality (100 m and 200 m) at functional class T11 for athletes with visual impairments, SARS-CoV-2 infected before Tokyo’s Paralympic games participate in our study. We evaluated the anthropometric, body composition, metabolic and inflammatory response parameters. At psychological level, we evaluated the athlete’s sleep behaviors and beliefs. The athlete maintained her training routine, presented normal values of glucose, triglycerides (TAG), total cholesterol, insulin, HOMA-IR, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, sTNF-R, IFN-γ, IL-1ra, leptin, adiponectin and BDNF. In addition, an efficient production of pro- and anti-inflammatory balance response in LPS-stimulated whole blood, marked by TNF-α and IL-1ra, and TNF-α, IL-6 and IFN-γ production from Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell (PBMC) was found. The paralympic athlete showed poor sleep behaviors (45 points) which might be related to the use of light emitting technologies. We conclude that despite the SARS-CoV-2 infected paralympic athlete to maintain her training volume and intensity routine, as well as normalized metabolic parameters and satisfactory inflammatory response; the paralympic athlete presents high frequency of poor sleep hygiene behaviors and a high index of inadequate sleep beliefs.
