Effect of organic and inorganic sources of Nitrogen on growth and yield of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
Effect of organic and inorganic sources of Nitrogen on growth and yield of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
An experiment was conducted at farmer’s field in the village Chella, Post- Sriniketan, Dist- Birbhum during rabi season of 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 to study the effect of integrated nutrient management on yield and its attributes of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) var.Selection-9. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with nine treatment combinations of 50% N + 50% N as cow-dung manure (T1),100% N as cow-dung manure (T2), 50% N + 50% N as vermi -compost (T3), 100% N as vermi-compost (T4), 50% N + 50% N as mustard oil cake (T5), 100% N as mustard oil cake (T6), 50% N + 50% N as neem cake (T7), 100% N as neem cake (T8), Standard Dose of Fertilizer @ 80:150:80 kg NPK ha-1 (T9) were replicated thrice. Pooled analysis of variance showed that the results of the all treatments were found significantly different for most of the characters including pod yield in both the years. Analysis of the pooled data clearly indicated that the combination of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers significantly influenced the pod yield and its attributing characters in French bean. Standard Dose of Fertilizer @ 80:150:80 kg NPK ha-1 (T9) gave highest results in case of plant height, number of pods per plant, pod length, average pod weight and pod yield (t ha-1). However, none of the treatments had significant influence on number of branches per plant, days to 50% flowering and pod diameter
