The rampant and indiscriminate use of antibiotics in different systems for therapy as well as their industrial and agricultural application have resulted into the accumulation of high concentration of such agents in various environmental systems, which again have caused disruption of the normal microbial balance, by outcompeting the useful and non-pathogenic bacteria, and increasing the number of drug-resistant pathogenic bacteria, in the system.
