About Pediatrics
The key to survival of any organism lies on their ability to reproduce. Initiation of life with a single cell and eventually growing to an infant with time conceals many secrets and surprises of nature. Reproductive biology is an important branch of life sciences with further extends to obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics. With time and advancement of scientific understanding each of these sub disciplines has grown to a major discipline by themselves. Pediatrics deals with the medical aspects in the formative years of an infant following the child birth. Several medical and social issues are interrelated with pediatrics which broadly encompasses neonatology, pediatric psychiatry, allergy and dermatology, neurology, oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, pulmonology, infectious diseases in infants, nephrology, neonatal critical care, neonatal nursing, medical and social aspects of breast feeding, neonatal jaundice etc. Geriatrics or geriatric medicine is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. Geriatric care management is the process of planning and coordinating care of the elderly and others with physical and/or mental impairments to meet their long term care needs, improve their quality of life, and maintain their independence for as long as possible. It entails working with persons of old age and their families in managing, rendering and referring various types of health and social care services
