Biography

Paola Pontrelli was born in Bari, Italy, on April 29th 1974. She is graduated in Biology, Post-graduated in Clinical Pathology, and PhD in Biotecnologies applied to organ and tissues transplants, at University of Bari. She was teaching assistant in Clinical Pathology, Microbiology and Molecular Pathology from 2005 to 2011. From 2005 she is Permanent Technical Researcher at University of Bari.Her research activity is documented by 33 publications in peer reviewed journals and participations in national and international meetings.

Research Interest

Dr.Paola Pontrelli, research interests are mainly focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the ischemia-reperfusion injury in renal transplanted patients and the pathogenesis of acute and chronic allograft rejection. I studied the link between efficient immunosuppression and control over the development of cancer in kidney transplant patients and the effects of several immunosuppressive drugs on the induction of the “operational” tolerance in kidney transplanted patients
